The Austin Economic Club (AEC) continues its 2005 Distinguished Lecture Series with a breakfast featuring U.S. Sen. John Cornyn on Friday, October 14th at the Austin Club, 110 E. 9th St.
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Cornyn will play a key role in the confirmation hearing of fellow Texan and U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. Sen. Cornyn strongly supports Ms. Miers.
Sen. Cornyn is also a member of committees that will be instrumental in Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita – the Senate Budget Committee, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. The senator toured with President George Bush recently, visiting several Texas cities affected by the disasters, including Beaumont, Tyler, Houston, and Austin.
At a private reception for sponsors before the breakfast, the Austin Economic Club will award “Hurricane Heroes” awards to several Texas businesses that went above and beyond the call of duty in responding to recent disaster relief efforts.

“With Austin representing the center of economic and political leadership in Texas, we founded this organization to inform the Central Texas community about a wide range of issues impacting business and public policy at the highest level possible,” stated Glenn E. West of Guaranty Bank, an AEC co-Founder & its President. West is the former Executive Director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
“We’re so excited to have Senator Cornyn speak to a distinctive group of Austin individuals and present us with an update of the important work he’s been coordinating with President Bush in East Texas, as well as hear an analysis of the upcoming Supreme Court hearings on a fellow Texan,” said West.
